A little about me
I spent most of my younger days like other kids – playing games, riding bikes, playing softball, dancing, etc….however, I can always recall that most of those times I was consistently comparing myself to all the other kids and how I measured up to them (or didn’t), berating myself, and spent a lot of days pretty sad about how I looked compared to everyone else - as if I wasn’t good enough the way that I was made. This unfortunately led me into the dark tunnels of an Eating Disorder. For about 7 years of my life I lived starving myself and/or getting rid of anything that I did put in my mouth. I counted calories until I pretty much was an encyclopedia of knowledge on how many calories were in each serving of every type of food, and found myself still not liking how I looked nor who I had become. It was a lonely, sad, and scary place to be. Then, I decided to join Life Time Fitness and hire a Personal trainer to help me get healthy again. I worked with Tammy Nelson – a wonderful, kind, and caring person who helped turn my life around into a positive place! I have never been the same since! I started Personal Training 11 years ago because of the huge difference she had made in my life and I wanted to be able to share my story and help others on their journey to becoming more Fit in mind, body and soul, and to accept and love themselves as they are. Over the course of the first year that I was personal training I was given the opportunity to start teaching Group Fitness classes and fell in LOVE with teaching - something came alive in me that I hadn't felt in years!! I continued to teach and broaden my skills with different formats and within that learning process started taking a class called Soul Grooves. I had originally started to take it for me to learn to teach it but it became another changing moment for me in my life - my first class, I cried like a baby! Something released in me during that workout and I haven't felt the same since - in a good way! This class brought me back to my roots, to what I love to do - which is Dance and move and shake and groove! I now teach some dance classes including Zumba, and multiple other formats, during the week and it is so invigorating, uplifting, and rewarding to watch people break out of their shells and be free of the "junk" we sometimes take on that holds us back and down in life - the judgments, expectations, our past, etc....! We all have to learn to let that go and find what helps us to do that.
The main purpose of my classes and this site are to help empower people to be the best they can be while Loving who they are and allowing themselves to be Free - Free to live, to dance their dance, to enjoy life and all that it has to offer. Movement is powerful in so many ways! I am grateful for the opportunities I have been given to help others through movement!
